We have been experimenting with an egg and vinegar. We placed a raw egg inside a jar and covered it with vinegar. Here are some time lapses of what happened over the first few days/nights. When the screen goes black it is overnight.
Welcome to Room 5 and 6's joint blog! Here you will be able to keep up to date with what we are up to in the classroom. To find your way around our blog: The small tabs below provide general class updates. On the blogs main page you will find general things that our class has been up to. Along the right hand side of the blog there is a box that says "Check out some of our work!" This is where you will find the work that we have been doing in class.

Count Us In 2015
This year our very talented South Hornby Story Tellers (school choir), had the amazing opportunity to head over to Adelaide to sing alongside the Hawthorndene School Choir. We have an exchange where every other year their school comes here and then we go to Adelaide on alternate years.
Our Count Us In song- Gold was performed in our hall yesterday by the remaining children of South Hornby. The children sung their little hearts out and did the actions wonderfully. I am so proud of them all. Watch the video below to listen to them sing.

Room 5 and 6's Cotton Ball Catapult Contest!
This week we are not doing Maths Interchange as usual, since the choir is going to Adelaide. Miss McLeod and Mrs McGuinniety assigned a task to create a self-standing catapult, to fire cotton balls in the air.
The supplies we used were rubber bands, Popsicle sticks, paper clips, cotton balls, glue, sticky tape, rocks, ice cream containers, wire and boxes. The class was put into pairs (each a different year level and gender) and then we began working. Each pair had to create two prototypes on paper, then begin building their best/favourite. It took us about 2 - 3 for everyone to finish their catapults. Everyone was definitely impressed with each others's catapults! The best part was that all of the designs were different.
But that's not it. Mrs McGuinniety, Miss McLeod, Isaac and Gary organised a competition to test the height and distance of the cotton balls. They hung a piece of string from one of the wires on the roof to the ground, and about 1.5 metres up a picture of the teachers - in their Minion outfits from last term! That measures the height of the cotton balls.
On the green screen there is once again, a picture of the Minions, with red vivid marks to make it look like a vivid. About 1 metre back from the screen we will fire our cotton balls. If you hit the bulls eye you get $50 for our money system. That will test the distance.

Head to everyone's individual blogs to see each of their catapults being launched.
Here is our school Principal Mr. M launching some fireballs with one of the catapults!

Fairy Tales and Fractured Fairy Tales
This term we are looking at fractured Fairy Tales. First we thought about what we already knew about Fairy Tales and posted our ideas into a padlet. Check out what we know! We will be expanding our knowledge this term.
Fractured Fairy Tale Version
After we did this we watched and listened to the original version of "The Three Little Pigs" and then the fractured Fairy Tale version of it.
