Welcome to Room 5 and 6's joint blog! Here you will be able to keep up to date with what we are up to in the classroom.
To find your way around our blog:
The small tabs below provide general class updates.
On the blogs main page you will find general things that our class has been up to.
Along the right hand side of the blog there is a box that says "Check out some of our work!" This is where you will find the work that we have been doing in class.
Today, as well as Book Character Day we had the amazing opportunity to be an audience to the incredible Worlds Apart Show! Thank you so much to Mrs Signal for organising it!
The Worlds Apart actors begun by introducing the story and setting the scene. The two children lived 100 years apart but their worlds managed to collide when they receive a present on their birthdays.
Some of the children got to get up and do dancing with them too!
For our inquiry learning we are working towards creating something for the Digi Awards. One of the categories which the children can enter into is called Digital Art.
This requires the children to celebrate their Everyday Hero using a digital art form such as graphic design, digital photos altered or unaltered, animation, comics or a photo-story. They need to make sure they use good composition, emotion or digital techniques. This includes looking at effective camera angles.
To help with this, today Room 56 did some experimenting with some different camera angles.
You might have noticed that we have a new tab that has appeared along the top of our blog. This will take you to a list of links for the children's individual blogs (an easy way to find your child's blog).
Keep an eye out- we will have these up and running soon!
This term we have been doing a lot of learning around Heroes. So far, Room 5 and 6 have covered the two topics of "Ourselves as Heroes" and "Personal Heroes".
For a collaborative task this week the children had to add something they had learnt so far about Heroes to a Padlet. A Padlet is a collaborative tool where we can go to share ideas, our learning and reflect.
On Tuesday, Sam Dickson came to visit us. He is a famous New Zealand rugby 7s player. We spent the morning before school finding out about him so we were prepared and then we thought of some questions to ask him. We tried to think of some questions related to our hero topic for inquiry as well.
Sam passed around his medals for the kids to have a look at too. Here is Cameron B from the Room 56 learning space having a look. How cool!!

They were hard to all fit in so we had to take another one!
Our Kapa Haka boys performed their haka they had been learning as well. Sam really enjoyed it.
Some of the boys had a chat with him afterwards. They asked him to ref them playing rugby at lunch time but Sam has an injured knee so couldn't.
